The Â鶹´«Ă˝Ół» Art Department features an ongoing series of exhibitions in four separate galleries.
Napa Hall Art Gallery, Â鶹´«Ă˝Ół» campus

This bright and spacious gallery is the University’s premier art exhibition space, and hosts a wide range of art exhibitions featuring regional, national and internationally recognized artists. Though Â鶹´«Ă˝Ół» is located in close proximity to Los Angeles, the mission of the Napa Hall Art Gallery is to expose students to a diverse array of emerging artists, experimental media, and varied artistic practices—in other words, to bring the artists and creative practitioners directly to the students. Located in the main art building, this space has featured: video projects, architectural models, painting, performances, sculpture, photography, design, and even elaborate neon installations in conjunction with the Museum of Neon Art. The Napa Gallery also hosts the “Campus Crossover Series,” a showcase for cutting-edge graduate student work from CI’s neighboring institution, the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Current Exhibition:
Â鶹´«Ă˝Ół»â€™s Art Department is proud to announce the first exhibition of the new academic
year. The Napa Hall Art Gallery will host “Double Landing,” a solo exhibition featuring the work of critically acclaimed artist Rafael Perea de
la Cabada.
Featuring dozens of original artworks, the exhibition highlights Perea’s unique creative
approach and wide-ranging media, including expressive paintings, charcoal drawings,
assemblages, and ceramics.
“Double Landing” opens Monday, September 14, with a free public reception Thursday,
September 17, from 5–7 p.m. The artist will be in attendance.
The exhibition runs through October 23. The gallery is open Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–5
p.m.
Perea will also discuss his work at an artist’s talk October 20, from 6–7 p.m.
Born in Mexico City, Perea earned his BFA from the National School of Painting, Sculpture,
and Printmaking and his MFA from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
“Double Landing” presents work shaped by experimentation, keen observation, and the
interplay of construction and continual revision. As the title suggests, the works
never quite settle into a fixed form—instead, they are animated through layers of
gesture and movement.

Broome Gallery

Located in the John Spoor Broome Library, the mission of the Broome Gallery is to present a wide range of artists, themes, and media and expose Â鶹´«Ă˝Ół» students, faculty and staff, as well as the community to diverse artistic views and conceptual possibilities. The aim of the gallery is to provide the visual and theoretical platform that supports the mission of the university and the four pillars of the Academic Programs: International Perspectives, Interdisciplinary Studies, Multicultural Views and Community Engagement. Additional exhibitions include the Â鶹´«Ă˝Ół» Faculty Collaborations series, held in the spring semester and Artist-Teacher, held in the fall. Faculty members have been regularly included in the Broome exhibition program, as both curators and artists.

Gallery hours are: Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The Gradwall Gallery
Each year, faculty members confer and select a small number of outstanding graduating senior students who will have the opportunity to develop a solo exhibition for the Gradwall Gallery. Also located in Napa Hall, this setting has become a thriving space for experimental installations and dynamic solo work. An undergraduate solo exhibition is a rare occurrence amongst colleges and universities, and students selected to exhibit in this space also receive a stipend to help complete their projects.

The Palm-Temporary Gallery
Classroom collaborations, small group shows, curatorial explorations, and student-proposed projects are the hallmark of the Palm-Temporary Gallery. As the most recent addition to the gallery line-up, the Palm-Temporary adds to the vivid experience of being an art major, and gives students the chance to see and experience the full range of projects unfolding in classes throughout the Art Program.
