Cal State Channel Islands (鶹ýӳ) received nearly $6 million in philanthropic support from DataPhilanthropy, the philanthropic arm of the Jeff T. Green Family Foundation, last fiscal year to expand access to higher education and strengthen academic support for first-generation and low-income students, bringing total giving to the University to over $15.6 million.

For the 2026-27 academic year, DataPhilanthropy has pledged $5,198,266 to launch a new Jeff T. Green Family Foundation Scholarship cohort, providing renewable, need-based awards to up to 250 first-year students, bringing total giving to scholarships to $11.9 million.

Scholarship recipients must be first-generation college students, demonstrate financial need and meet ongoing academic and engagement benchmarks to retain the award for up to three additional years. The program pairs financial support with structured advising, coursework milestones and career-readiness touchpoints designed to help students stay on track toward graduation.

“Thanks to the generosity of DataPhilanthropy and the Jeff T. Green Family Foundation, 鶹ýӳ is able to provide our students with more than financial assistance, we are investing in their ability to persist, succeed and achieve their educational goals,” said Susan Andrzejewski, 鶹ýӳ Interim President. “What makes this partnership especially meaningful is our shared commitment to learning from the data, understanding what works and continually improving how we support our students. Together, we are creating pathways that help students overcome barriers, stay on track and reach graduation.”

The scholarship investment is part of a broader commitment from DataPhilanthropy to strengthen student success at 鶹ýӳ. The organization has also committed $712,622 to 鶹ýӳ’s Learning Resource Center and the Writing & Multiliteracy Center. Total support for these centers has reached $3,306,925 since 2022.

“We believe education is the great equalizer and that Cal State Channel Islands illustrates the impact of higher education,” said Richard Yao, President of DataPhilanthropy. “The University’s focus on first-generation students, the fact that it is a Hispanic-Serving Institution and serves many students with high financial need makes it an ideal partner.”

Yao also pointed to 鶹ýӳ’s willingness to use data to evaluate its programs and continuously improve how it serves students.

“We appreciate the learning posture that Cal State Channel Islands has. Together we will examine the data on student outcomes to learn what is working and what isn’t, and adjust accordingly,” Yao said. “DataPhilanthropy wants to be a learning partner with the organizations that we support, and 鶹ýӳ is the best example of that.”

The latest commitment builds on a sustained philanthropic partnership between Jeff T. Green, CEO and co-founder of The Trade Desk, the Jeff T. Green Family Foundation and 鶹ýӳ that began in 2018. Through DataPhilanthropy, Green and the Foundation have focused their support on expanding educational opportunities for first-generation and low-income students.

Prior to this year’s support, Green and the Foundation had funded 546 scholarships at 鶹ýӳ, including 440 renewable awards. The continued investment represents a long-term commitment to student access and success rather than a one-time gift.

By combining renewable financial aid with academic support, advising, peer tutoring and career preparation, the partnership is designed to address both the financial and academic barriers that can prevent students from completing college. The investments will give 鶹ýӳ students additional resources and support from their first year through graduation while providing the University and its philanthropic partner with meaningful data to evaluate and strengthen the work.
